Post Losing weight
Hi I am trying to lose weight again. I have tried in the past but was unable to reach my goal. However I am determined to try to get into shape. It is hard because of my medication however I have lost it in the past and feel that with this forum I may succeed with a little help. Do any of you have any suggestions. I am doing about 50 sit ups at night and am going to stop drinking pop or soda as Americans call it. Does anyone have the same problem?

I think cutting out pop is the best thing you could do, it's pure sugar. I would suggest running on your treadmill before breakfast, at like 5am for 1 hour, or build up to an hour. You burn the most calories during this time.

I had gained over 80lbs after my doctor prescribed Clozapine for my schizophrenia. A few years later I tried the Atkins diet Along with a half hour walk every day. I managed to lose 60lbs in six months. The secret with this diet is to cut out all sugars, including carbohydrates. Basically carbohydrates are chains of simple sugars. When the stomach breaks a carbohydrate down it turns into a sugar. Excess sugar is stored as fat. Cutting out carbohydrates such as potatoes, rice, pasta, and bread can help you lose weight. Also it is important to know that fruit has tonnes of sugar in it. Especially bananas pineapple. mangoes. So if your trying to lose weight cutting out fruit helps too.

I too am trying again to lose weight. I find that ridding my home of all or most of the tempting snack foods helps me. My problem is that my 2 year old grandson lives in our home and what child doesn't want an occasional cookie.

Activity helped me to lose about 30 lbs this past summer. But when I went back to college this fall the inactivity of hours in the classroom combined with an hour drive each way began to put back on the pounds.

I have joined a gym with my three daughters and our goals are all the same of weight loss. I have gone to the gym when winter weather permits but have not seen any weiight loss. My endurance is improving but no losses as of yet.

Maybe we can all be a support to each other in this common goal.
I have found that the exercise makes me feel very invigerated.

Well here we go again, I am going to attempt to loose some weight, I picked up at the library today the Atkins diet book. About 5 years ago I was on that diet, and went from about 240 to 216 and than I quit. Has any of you been on that.

Hey there. I, too, am desperately in need of losing weight after a med change in hospital last April helped (!) me gain 45 pounds. Reducing the main culprit - the Seroquel - is not an option, so I have now begun taking Topamax, which has a side effect of decreasing one's appetite. My weight gain has finally stopped.

I now feel encouraged to attempt a diet and exercise program. I am a vegetarian leaning toward being a vegan - can't quite give up that cheese though! I am a believer in a plant-based diet as promoted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in the U.S. and by EarthSave Canada. My diet is essentially healthy but I need to cut down on portion sizes and cut out between meal snacks, especially those deadly bedtime refridgerator raids.

I must also stop saying that I'm too busy to exercise. Exercise has to become a priority. I've been trying to line up 3 friends who are willing to commit to a weekly walk with me - all on different days. If I'm committed to the weekly walks with them then I will actually get out there and walk.

I've put a new chart on graph paper on the wall near the fridge as incentive for my new weight loss efforts.

Whatever methods you choose, good luck to you all. Let's keep in touch and cheer each other on. I lost 3 pounds my first week. It really is possible! Anne

hi Merilisa have you ever tried the atkins diet? Basically it is cutting out all carbs. I have been doing it for a week and a half and have lost 10 lbs I eat eggs, cheese, meat, vegies, no milk, pasta, pop, etc. I am sleeping better, able to get out of bed faster, and don't feel hungry. I do 50 sit ups a night except on weekends. I will keep you posted.

Weight gain is something I have been talking about for a while as I am on Olanzapine. I have become mostly a vegetarian and have cut out foods like ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard and any other excess condiments. I also do not drink juices or other beverages that are loaded with sugar, water is the best choice for me right now. I have an exercise bike at home that I ride each day. When I am at a restaurant I choose items that are less saturated in fats. I also live where I am at in life and do not cause myself grief over choices, I take each moment as it comes and make the best choice for my health in the moment.

I think you are 100% right we have to live day by day and make the right choice moment by moment, if I fail and eat something I shouldn't have, that was my choice than, however the next choice I make can be a good one. day by day choice by choice.

Hi,

It's me "weighing in" again. Efforts to lose weight aren't going well right now. One of the main things is not exercising regularly. I've been so busy. And I'm not making a serious commitment to reducing portions and cutting out snacks.

But I've decided to get back into taking the bus to work when I don't need the car. That gives me a brisk 20 minutes of walking both ways.

And you know? Tomorrow is another day! I can restart my dieting by reducing portions and cutting out snacks. And trying to stick to healthy foods.

Hey, I'm starting to feel less discouraged already! Hope I've managed to inspire a few people out there, too.

It definatly is a battle, however I have maintained my weight, by cutting out carbs, and soft drinks, and eating lot of veggies, and cheese, and meat. I am also planning to start walking April 1st hopefully the weather will be nicer. I hate the cold.

Eating health(protein rich diet) 3-4 times a day in small quantity and after regular intervals and having a good workout schedule can help in losing weight. And there are various products available over counter which can help you reduce weight but such things should only be used in accordance with the instructions of a physician as such things can have a lot of side effects on body and can even hamper the hormonal balance of the body.
